The Mercery was founded with the ambition to preserve and nurture artisan weaving traditions around the world.

Textiles and traditional weaving practices are present in every corner of the globe with unique and enduring techniques that inform and are informed by the characteristics of the land, weather, and people of each place. As globalization has homogenized and automated textiles, we have lost the knowledge, traditions, and resources of locally made, artisan textiles. The Mercery seeks to redirect the global textile industry away from extractive practices in agriculture and manufacturing to reinvigorate, extend, and amplify the exquisite production that exists across the globe.
